This is what you'll find in your Adopt-A-School-Board Toolkit:

  • Top 5 to Know About A School Board Outing A guide outlining how to find out when and where your School Board meets and how to get on the agenda, plus a sample statement and tips
  • Optimum Opt Out Resolution & Sample Letter A suggested Resolution for recommendation to your Superintendent & Board, supporting family privacy and best practices in the implementation of Section 9528
  • School Board Flyer (optional) A flyer for School Board members highlighting best Opt Out practices, with instructions on nominating School Board to Optimum Opt Out Honor Roll
  • Top 5 to Know About Military Recruitment (backgrounder)

What if you find your School Board is already doing an amazing job on Opt Out? Then try this:

First, nominate your Board to the Optimum Opt Out Honor Roll by sending an email naming your district and how they qualify to [email protected]. Be sure to put "Honor Roll" in the subject line.

Then, turn your attention to the policymakers at your STATE Association of School Boards! Look them up through www.nsba.org or ask at your district office. Then call their policy contact, and fax or mail in your Resolution and cover letters. A follow up phone call to find out how you were received would be useful too.

Let us know how it goes and what you found out! Email [email protected]
